According to local Welsh tradition the term 'Bluestone' refers to a stone known to geologists as 'Spotted Dolerite'. This stone only occurs in one place in the entire world, Carn Meini in the Preseli Mountains. Take care when buying Bluestone for healing or spiritual purposes. If it doesn't have the spots, it doesn't come from Carn Meini, and therefore does not have the same properties. When cut in any direction Bluestone will display a pattern that bears a remarkable resemblance to the cosmos. For this reason it is considered by many to be sacred or magic. Many archaeologists now accept that the existence of the strange pattern in the stone was probably the reason why the ancient people of Britain chose to use it for Stonehenge. |
|
Legal Situation: The tiny, ancient site of Carn Meini is now protected by British Law and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. No one is allowed to take spotted dolerite from the mountain anymore. The stone that we sell is from a private source and consists of stones that were brought from the mountain long before any laws of extraction were put into force. Only spotted dolerite from such private sources can be sold legally as extraction of any kind from the mountain itself is illegal.

When night fell every star in the sky was shining brilliantly and all could be seen reflected in the glistening surface of the mount. As night wore on it became very cold and the mount turned back to stone, capturing the reflection of the sky forever.
